At Mdonya you never feel like an intruder. Designed with a conscious desire to remain simple, the camp’s rustic setting makes you feel closely connected to the natural environment. And the wildlife obviously feel the same way about you: they wander through the camp as if it’s just another step in their journey. A beautifully secluded tented camp surrounded by woodland along the course of the old Mdonya riverbed, offering 12 double tents, convertible to triples and 2 into family tents accommodating 4 – 5 guests if required. All tents provide en suite bathrooms with solar heated hot water, and a private polished floor veranda. Communal dining takes place under a large open-sided tent for breakfast and lunch, with dinner served under the stars. An excellent menu is created weekly, using all locally grown fresh produce, with a wide selection for vegetarians. Vuma Hills has 16 tents set up in the hills to the south of the park overlooking the shimmering planes of Mikumi. ‘Vuma’ means rumour spread by the wind – now more than just a rumour, the camp is centred around the dining room, bar and swimming pool. Game drives are taken in adapted 4WD vehicles, and the expert guides have axcellent local knowledge on the faune and flora of Mikumi National Park.
